SIBELIUS JEAN: (1865-1957) Finnish Composer. Widely considered Finland´s greatest composer, and often credited with having developed a national identity through his music at the time of independence from Russia. T.L.S., Jean Sibelius, signed in bold pencil, one page, square 4to, Järvenpää, 8th May 1942, to Paul von Balogh, in German. A war time letter, Sibelius referring to the people of Finland and of his correspondent´s homeland, Hungary, and referring to the joint effort of both countries fighting together against the enemy, saying `Herzlichen Dank für Ihren freundlichen Gruss den ich auf das wärmste erwidere, Gerade heute, wo unsere beiden Völker Seite an Seite gegen den drohenden Osten kämpfen, ist mir ein Gruss aus Ungarn besonders lieb´ (Translation: `Thank you very much for your friendly greeting, which I return most warmly. Especially today, when our two countries´ people are fighting side by side against the threatening East, a greeting from Hungary is particularly dear to me´) With blank integral leaf. Edges only very slightly trimmed. Accompanied by the original envelope, typed address, to Regisseur Paul von Balogh in Budapest. Postmarked and stamped. G
