THOMSON GEORGE: (1757-1851) Scottish music publisher and a noted collector of the music of Scotland. A folio bound volume of A Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs for the Voice, edited by George Thomson, Volume V only, published by Preston, London, 1818, featuring 'Introductory & Concluding Symphonies & Accompaniments for the Piano Forte, Violin & Violoncello by Haydn & Beethoven, with Select Verses adapted to the Arts, including upwards of One hundred new Songs by Burns, together with his celebrated Poem of The Jolly Beggars set to Music by Henry R. Bishop', pages 201-230 and 1-30 ('The Jolly Beggars') and also including a preface, index to the poetry, glossary of the Scottish words and engraved frontispiece entitled The Gaberlunzie Man. Signed ('G Thomson') by Thomson in dark ink to the foot of the title page. Lacking the back cover and bound within modern plain white card. Some extensive overall age wear, light foxing throughout and the front board worn at the edges. FR
