MASSENA ANDRE: (1758-1817) Marshal of France, Duc de Rivoli. L.S., Massena, two pages, 4to, Zurich, 16th October 1799, to General Loison, in French. The attractive partially printed document issued by Massena, orders the shipment of as many boots as possible, stating in part `I try to get at least enough funds.. If I manage to get them it won«t be without difficulties..« further informing that General Lecourbe returns to the Army as General of division and that Gudin must remain at his post. Signed by Massena at the base in his capacity as General and Chief Commandant of the Danube Army. A clean document carefully penned. Stain to the bottom right corner not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG £400-600 Claude-Jacques Lecourbe (1758-1815) French General during French revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Lecourbe dismissed as Commandant in chief of the army of the Rhine, but remained supported by the Directory. Charles Gudin de la Sablonniere (1768-1812) killed at the battle of Smolensk, was at that time Chief of Lecourbe.
