DERAIN ANDRE: (1880-1954) French artist, painter and sculptor, a co-founder of Fauvism with Henri Matisse. A.L.S., A Derain, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d. ( ‘Jeudi’), to a friend, in French. Derain states that it was with great pleasure that he received his friend’s news, continuing ‘J'aurai bien voulu m'entretenir des evenements avec vous mais j'ai quitte Paris il y fait trop froid. Je reste a la campagne’ (Translation: ‘I would have liked to discuss the events with you, but I left Paris as it is too cold. I stay in the countryside’) although adding that he thinks he will be back in Paris at the end of the next week, and will let his friend know, further remarking ‘Je previens vos amis les peintres americains je pense les convoquer pour la semaine prochaine egalement. Je vous avertirai donc des que je resterai quelques jours’ (Translation: ‘I’m warning your friends, the American painters, I’m thinking of calling them for next week as well. So, I will let you know that I will be staying for a few days’). Some light creasing, otherwise VG
