VAN DONGEN KEES: (1877-1968) Dutch painter. A.L.S., Van Dongen, one page, 4to, Villa Said (Paris), n.d., to a friend, on attractive stationery featuring a printed image of a naked lady, in French. Van Dongen thanks his friend for their kind letter and remarks ‘N'ayez pas peur de ma mondanite au n'est qu'un degeniement comme vous le savez bien’ (Translation: ‘Do not be afraid of my worldliness, it is only a genius as you well know’), further adding ‘Je serais enchante si une peinture pouvait vous inspirer quelques beaux poemes ou un livre’ (Translation: ‘I would be delighted if a painting could inspire you with some beautiful poems or a book’) and inviting his friend to come and talk to him about it, explaining that there are art dealers and publishers who ‘seraient tres desireux d'editer un livre sur moi’ (Translation: ‘would be very keen to publish a book about me’).
