SACHER-MASOCH LEOPOLD VON: (1836-1895) Austrian Writer, a Galician Storyteller and a utopian ideals Humanist Thinker. The term masochism is derived from his name. A clean and attractive A.L.S., Sacher Masoch, one page, 8vo, Leipzig, 23rd July 1884, on his personal printed stationery, in French. The letter bears his printed name to the heading “Sacher-Masoch” beneath his printed literary revue title “Auf Der Hohe” (“At the Height”). Sacher-Masoch states `J´autorise monsieur Ch. Lariviere, Directeur en chef de la Revue Générale ou son representant de recevoir deux manuscrits, traductions, Madame de Soldan, confiés à l´Administration de la Revue des Deux Mondes´ (Translation: “I authorize Mr. Ch. Lariviere, Chief Director of the Revue Générale or his representative to receive two manuscripts, translations, Madame de Soldan, entrusted to the Administration of the Revue des Deux Mondes”) With blank integral leaf. Sacher-Masoch published in 1882 his work Madame de Soldan, in which he reveals his fascination with the foot, a favorite theme of Sacher-Masoch. He expresses it in this novel Madame von Soldan. In this same novel, there is also a text on the “hand of Frau von Solda”. Sacher-Masoch compares his hand to a work of art carved from Carrara Marble.
