LEOPOLD III: (1901-1983) King of the Belgians 1934-51. A fine vintage signed and inscribed sepia 9 x 12.5 photograph by King Leopold III, the image depicting the monarch seated in a three-quarter length pose wearing a pinstripe suit. Photograph by Robert Marchand and bearing his credit as 'Photographe du Roi' alongside a crown beneath the image. Signed by King Leopold III in dark ink to the lower photographer's mount, 'Au Comte Capelle avec mon souvenir bien amical, Leopold', and dated Christmas 1959 in his hand. Framed and glazed in the original dark brown tortoise shell frame to an overall zize of 10.5 x 14. About EX
Count Robert Capelle (1889-1974) Belgian diplomat who served as a secretary to King Leopold III and was the monarch's closest adviser during World War II, leaving his post in 1947.
