The artist sends his correspondent 100 francs and explains 'Je suis passe rue Ventimille plusieurs tableaux sont revenus il est vrai mais pas celui en question' (Translation: 'I went to rue Ventimille and several paintings came back, but not the one in question'), further writing 'Hier a paru dans le Gaulois une lettre de vous, je suppose que vous devez avoir recu le numero. Ainsi finit cette miserable affaire qui n'a prouve par moins l'ignominie des journalistes' (Translation: 'Yesterday a letter from you appeared in Le Gaulois, I suppose you must have received the number.
