Le Général Frere vient de me prier de vous renouveler cette demande. Il m´assure que s´il n´obtient la permission de l´absence, il courra risqué de perdre une fortune considerable…´ (Translation: “When I had the honour of sending you, Monsieur le Maréchal, some time ago, a request for leave for Brigadier General Frere, you replied to me that at that moment, His Majesty the Emperor wanted each officer to remain at his post. General Frere has just asked me to renew this request. He assures me that if he does not obtain permission to be absent, he will run the risk of losing a considerable fortune…”) Bernadotte recommends the leave approval considering the services given by General Frere.
