Dumas writes to his close friend Desbarolles referring to his new “science”, quiromancy, and states in part `Cher ami, je reçois votre bien aimable lettre et m´empresse d´y répondre. Il y a présentement des affinités inattendues, car nous parlions il y a 2 jours de vous et de votre science si intéressante et si positive. Vous aviez dans la maitresse de la maison où j´étais, Mme Guyet Desfontaines, une adepte des plus convaincues. J´y crois aussi, car j´en suis arrive à croire à tout excepté au mal…´ (Translation: “Dear friend, I receive your very kind letter and I hasten to respond to it. There are currently some unexpected affinities, because 2 days ago we were talking about you and your science which is so interesting and so positive. You had in the mistress of the house where I was, Mrs. Guyet Desfontaines, a most convinced follower. I believe in it too, because I have come to believe in everything except evil...”) Further, Dumas refers to his next future plans, explains that he won´t be able to go to Bade, and before concluding sends a very close and kind message to his correspondent saying `Sur ce, sachez, mon cher Desbarolles que vous êtes un des bons et honnêtes souvenirs de ma vie et que je vous aime de tout mon coeur´ (Translation: “On this note, you have to know, my dear Desbarolles, that you are one of the good and honest memories of my life and that I like you with all my heart”) EX
