President of the French Academy of medicine, he was best known for testifying as an expert in criminal poisoning cases. Orfila served as Royal Physician to King of France Louis XVIII. Rare A.L.S., `Orfila´, one page, 8vo, Paris, 7th June 1851, on the letterhead of the Ministry of Public Instruction and Ecclesiastical affairs, to the President of the Court of Assizes of the Lower Loire, in French. Orfila refers to a court case of poisoning, by iron sulfate, and states in part `..I would like to know if I will be testifying on that day or the following having been retained by the Superior Council for its session, I must try to keep my absence as short as possible..´ Very small creasing.
