BUSCH WILHELM: (1832-1908) German Illustrator, Humorist, Poet and Painter, a cultural icon and influential source of inspiration for future generations of comic artists. An extremely rare and exceptional original comic strip drawn by Busch, eight pages, 8vo, n.p., n.d. (c. 1878), seven of the pages featuring two attractive sketches each, with brief captions beneath. The work is titled by Busch to the first page, in red crayon and with a flourish, `Eine milde Geschichte´ ("A mild Story"), being a comic strip corresponding to his work "Haarbeutel" ("A bag with hair"). The original fourteen attractive sketches, each drawn by Busch, give shape to the full comic strip, being the ones published for the first time in 1878. Beneath each sketch Busch has added captions in his hand, in part `Happy Farmer Bunke… Obstacle… Success… The bread dough is blended… He lays comfortable… because the gift of god became useless… Sadly Mrs Bunke cleans with the broom until he is clean again…´ Each strip has been numbered in red. A complete and very desirable original comic strip by Busch. Each page has been lightly affixed to a folio card. A few pages have extremely small clipped corners. VG, 8   £40000-60000
