CUBAN SLAVERY ABOLITION: An excellent multiple signed decree, one page, small poster, 13 x 19, Camaguey, 26th February 1869, in Spanish. The printed decree bears to the heading a very attractive Cuban revolutionary coat of arms, ans states in large letters "Decree - the Assembly of Representatives of the centre - Slavery Abolition", and beneath "The Slavery, brought to Cuba because of the Spanish occupation, must finish with it". The text decree contains six principles, the first four being `1º - The Slavery is abolished. 2º - At some stage the slave owners will be compensated. 3º - All individuals who have obtained freedom by this decree will contribute to achieve independence with their efforts. - 4º - All subjects considered able and necessary to military service, will join our troops, and will benefit from the same rights as the soldiers of the liberatory army.´ Signed in bold black ink by Salvador Cisneros Betancourt (1828-1914) Marquis of Santa Lucia. President of the republic of Cuba 1873-75; Francisco Sanchez Betancourt (1827-1894) Politian and Cuban patriot; Antonio Zambrana y Vazquez (1846-1922) Cuban Politician, Eduardo Agramonte Piña (1841-1872) Cuban Politician and Officer of the Cuban Liberatory army. Agramonte had a prominent participation in the Ten Years war. Killed in battle at the early age of 30, and Ignacio Agramonte y Loinaz (1841-1873) Known as "El Mayor". Cuban Patriot. Killed in battle at the age of 31. Bearing to the left border a large and attractive black paper seal, showing a Cuban Liberatory Army coat of arms and the text "God and Freedom,- Republic of Cuba. Small overall age wear and toning, mostly to edges, slightly irregular. G £300-400
