John George of Brandenburg, 1592-1604. thaler uniface 80 kreuzers in 1592, minted during the siege of Duke Charles of Lorraine.
On May 17, 1592, the Protestant canons elected Johann Georg von Brandenburg as successor to the late Bishop Johannes. The eight Catholic canons did not participate in this election and, in turn, elected Cardinal Carlos de Lorena on May 31. The rivalry between the two religious groups was fought through battles in the diocese and in the city until, in 1604, João Jorge de Brandenburg left the diocese to Carlos de Lorraine.
