FRAGMENTARY ROMAN CARNELIAN AGATE WITH A DEPICTION OF A FEMALE DEITY PROBABLY POSING AS SERAPIS, 2ND - 3RD CENTURY A.D.

This captivating Roman carnelian agate intaglio, dating from the 2nd-3rd century A.D., features the detailed depiction of a female deity, likely posing as Serapis. Set within a robust silver mount, the female figure intricately carved into the rich red-orange carnelian stone.

Serapis, a Graeco-Egyptian deity associated with the afterlife and healing, was often depicted alongside other deities, blending both Greek and Egyptian elements.
