Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin – Important Document by the Managers of the Yeshiva with a Touching Description of the Study at the Yeshiva and Its Financial Situation, with an Especially Rare Stamp of the "Ha'Day Ha'Yomi" – 1937 – Before the Holocaust
An official letter by Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin of the Maharam Shapira. Lublin, 1937, to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Landau Av Beit Din of Johannesburg.
The letter is written on the (rare) official stationery of the yeshiva.
A special, illustrated stamp is glued onto the leaf: "Chagigat Ha'Torah, Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin, 28 Sivan 698 [1938], Siyum Daf Yomi Machzor Sheni". (The Daf Yomi was established by the head of the yeshiva, Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin). This stamp is extremely rare and naturally, there are almost no copies of it.
In their letter, the managers of the yeshiva ask for financial support by the honorable rabbi, who known to contribute generously to Torah institutions.
The writers describe the financial situation of the yeshiva, which is in great distress.
The letter is signed by the president Rabbi Yosef Königsberg and the secretary Rabbi Aharon Levohl. The stamp of the yeshiva.
