A letter Handwritten and Signed by Rabbi David Budnik, the Head of the 'Beit Yosef' Yeshiva of Dvinsk
Written on the official stationery of the Yeshiva. Tamuz, 1932.
Rabbi Budnik was born in circa 1893. In his youth, he studied at the Radin Yeshiva and then at the Novardok Yeshiva, there he became closely attached to the "Alter of Novardok," Rabbi Yosef Horowitz, and became one of his leading disciples. With the outbreak of War World I, he left with his rabbi to Russia and helped him establish Yeshivot all around the country, serving as head of Yeshiva in some of them. After the war, he returned to Poland, lived for a short time in Bialystok and helped establish the Mezhritch Yeshiva. He also established a Yeshiva in the city of Novardok, in the original building of the Yeshiva established by Rabbi Horowitz. He initiated the establishment of the chain of 'Beit Yosef' Yeshivot in Dvinsk and five other cities in Latvia and managed these Yeshivot. Rabbi Budnik had plans for strengthening the Torah in Latvia; unfortunately, the destruction of the European Jewry preceded their implementation. He perished in the Holocaust together with his students.
Condition: Very Good.
