Lauren Bacall, pseudonym of Betty Joan Perske (New York, September 16, 1924 - New York, August 12, 2014), was an American actress. She was the only daughter of the Polish Wulf Perske, known as William, and the Romanian Natalie Weinstein, both of Jewish religion and immigrants to the United States.
In 1993 she was awarded the Golden Globe for Lifetime Achievement, while in 1997 she received a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for the film Love Has Two Faces, for which she received her only Oscar nomination. In November 2009, she was awarded the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of her central role in the Golden Age of Film.
In 1999 she was ranked twentieth in the list of the greatest female stars of all time by the American Film Institute. Also very active in the theatrical field, she won two Tony Awards for best leading actress in a musical: in 1970 for Applause and in 1981 for Woman of the Year. On November 14, 2009, she was awarded the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She was the first star awarded to receive this honor outside of the official ceremony, which took place on 7 March 2010. An Oscar for lifetime achievement had not been awarded to a woman since 1994: the last winner was in fact Deborah Kerr.
He died on August 12, 2014 following a stroke, aged 89.
THE HUSBAND
On the set of "Southern Waters", Bacall, just nineteen, met her colleague Humphrey Bogart, aged 44, and love was born between the two. Bogart was the only love of her life, as she herself declared many times and with whom she remained close until his death in 1957 due to esophageal cancer. The two married in 1945 and two children were born from the marriage, Stephen (1949) and Leslie (1952). After Bogart's death, from 1961 to 1969 she was married to her colleague Jason Robards, with whom she had a son, Sam Robards, who also became an actor.
