PELE' - SIGNED SHIRT

Pelé, pseudonym of Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Três Corações, 23 October 1940 – São Paulo, 29 December 2022), was a Brazilian footballer and sports manager, who played as a midfielder or striker. He is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. Nicknamed O Rei (in Italian The King), O Rei do Futebol (The King of Football) and Black Pearl (in Portuguese Pérola Negra), he is the Footballer of the Century for FIFA, the International Olympic Committee[28][29] and the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), as well as the FIFA Ballon d'Or of the Century, voted by previous winners of the Ballon d'Or. He was subsequently the only footballer in the world to receive the honorary FIFA Ballon d'Or. Although he was never able to enter the Ballon d'Or rankings because until 1994 the award was reserved for European players, in 2016 the French magazine France Football, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the award, published a revised list of winners nominated before 1995 in which Pelè is considered the winner of seven editions. He occupies the 1st position in the special ranking of the best footballers of the 20th century both in the list published by the magazine World Soccer and in the one drawn up by the IFFHS.[36] The latter magazine consequently placed him first in the ranking of the best South American footballers of the 20th century, while FIFA instead placed him in first place in the ranking of the best number tens in the history of football.

As a footballer he tied his career mainly to Santos, with whom he won the Paulista championship ten times, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament four times, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A six times (five, in any case consecutive, the Taça Brasil and one Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament), as well as two editions of the Copa Libertadores, as many of the Intercontinental Cup and the first edition (out of two played) of the Intercontinental Champions Super Cup. Having moved to the United States of America in the final part of his career, he won a NASL Championship with the New York Cosmos.

WITH 37 TROPHIES WON, HE IS ONE OF THE TEN MOST WINNING PLAYERS IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL.

He is the only footballer in the world to have won three editions of the World Cup, an event that occurred with the Brazilian national team in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

His goal against Sweden in the 1958 final is considered the third greatest goal in the history of the FIFA World Cup and the first among those scored in a World Cup final. FIFA recognizes him as the record for career goals, 1,281 in 1,363 matches, while in official matches he scored 757 goals in 816 matches with an average of 0.93 goals per match.

He is part of the National Soccer Hall of Fame[44] and was included by the American weekly Time in the "TIME 100 Heroes & Icons" of the 20th century.[45] He was declared a "National Treasure" by the President of Brazil Jânio Quadros and, in July 2011, a "Historical-Sporting Heritage of Humanity".
