The Beatles were a British musical group, founded in Liverpool in 1960 and active until 1970. The group was composed of John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney (1942), George Harrison (1943-2001) and Ringo Starr (1940), the latter starting in 1962, called to replace Pete Best (1941); the first line-up also included Stuart Sutcliffe (1940-1962), bassist of the Beatles from 1960 to 1961.

Considered a mass communication phenomenon of global proportions, the Beatles marked an era in music, customs, fashion and pop art.

Several decades after their official dissolution - and after the death of two of the four members - the Beatles still have a huge following and numerous fan clubs exist all over the world.

According to the declared estimates, they have sold a total of over one billion copies worldwide between albums, singles and cassettes, resulting among the most successful artists and those with the highest number of sales in the United States. They are also in first place in the list of the "100 greatest artists" drawn up by Rolling Stone magazine (The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time).

The aura surrounding the development of their media success, which favored the birth of the so-called Beatlemania, as well as the quality, considered very high, of their discography, are also the subject of study by universities, psychologists and industry experts.

During their ten-year career they were officially the authors of 186 compositions recorded as a group, to which must be added twenty songs signed by Lennon-McCartney sold to other artists.
