WOODY ALLEN - POSTERS OF THE FILM "ANYTHING ELSE"
"Anything Else" is a 2003 film written and directed by Woody Allen. The protagonists are Allen himself, Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci.
PLOT
New York, early 2000s. Jerry Falk is a comedian who can't make it in the entertainment world because of his incompetent agent. What's more, he has been languishing in analysis for years under the care of an apathetic and laconic psychologist. Having fallen in love with the intriguing Amanda, an aspiring actress with an unpredictable character (whom he met because she was the new girlfriend of his old friend Bob), Jerry goes to live with her after the two had in the meantime started a clandestine relationship, thus leaving each of their lovers.
Some time later, however, their relationship enters a slow but inexorable crisis, between an increasingly tedious routine and the nervous breakdowns that the young woman begins to suffer because of her work difficulties. Added to all this is the transfer of Amanda's cumbersome and hysterical mother into their home, which effectively causes a real cancellation of their sexual life. Faced with this state of affairs, Jerry finds unexpected help in the advice of the elderly David Dobel, also a comedian, whom he met during a joint interview for a job at a television network, with whom he immediately forms a strong and sincere friendship.
Dobel, during their long walks in Central Park, convinces Jerry to redeem his life from oppressive and useless ties, starting with the one with Amanda. Jerry thus decides in the end to follow his friend's wise advice: leave Amanda (after having also learned that she has betrayed him several times); find the courage to dismiss his clumsy agent (who, upon hearing the news, almost has a heart attack); abandon his inconclusive psychoanalyst.
Having done this, he prepares to leave with Dobel for Los Angeles, California, where they have both found a job as writers for a television show, but at the last minute, the elderly author warns him that he will no longer be able to follow him because he has been accused of murder and will therefore be forced to live as a fugitive. And, before their paths separate, Dobel wishes his protégé good luck for his new solo adventure. Jerry will therefore leave for Los Angeles with the self-esteem, stubbornness and, above all, faith in life that he had always lacked.
