Verheyden 112 x 113 cm Figlio del pittore Franck Pietersz Verheyden, Mattheus Verheyden perse prematuramente il padre. Diventò allievo di Hendrik Carré II, Constantijn Netscher, Carel de Moor e Augustinus Terwesten II. Nel 1722 fu attivo ad Amsterdam quale ritrattista.
