Il dipinto mostra un interessante e articolato linguaggio artistico, frutto di un colto intreccio di culture pittoriche. In esso si notano elementi veneti, come il soggetto e la materia pittorica, elementi lombardi, come il fondo scuro, molto in uso tra i seguaci di Leonardo, ed infine una forte carica espressiva nel volto del Cristo e caricaturale nel viso dello sgherro che evidenziano un'influenza nordico-tedesca. A tal proposito ricordiamo Albrecht Dürer che soggiornò due volte a Venezia, tra il 1494 ed il 1495 e poi nel 1506, e dialogò ampiamente con Giovanni Bellini e l’ambiente artistico veneziano.

The painting shows an interesting and articulated artistic language, the result of a cultured interweaving of pictorial cultures. In it we note venetian elements, such as the subject and the pictorial material, lombard elements, such as the dark background, much in use among Leonardo's followers, finally a strong expressive charge in the face of Christ and a caricature in the face of the thug which highlight a nordic-german influence. In this regard we recall Albrecht Dürer who stayed twice in Venice, between 1494 and 1495 and then in 1506, and conversed extensively with Giovanni Bellini and the venetian artistic environment.
