L'opera è conservata entro una cornice genovese coeva.

Il dipinto in esame si caratterizza per il rarissimo soggetto veterotestamentario. Nell'ambito dell'intricata vicenda artistica genovese del Seicento, indubbiamente, Gioacchino Assereto è l'artista che presenta evidenti affinità stilistiche con la tela in esame. Infatti, si nota la lezione del pittore genovese nella composizione articolata e molto popolata risolta a mezzo busto. Anche l'intero impianto cromatico permeato da tinte brune con punti di luce realizzati con il bianco, il rosso e il celeste è elemento tipico di Assereto. A confermare questa tesi attributiva vi sono altri due dipinti del maestro dedicati al medesimo e raro soggetto: il primo è pubblicato alle pag. 92-94 del catalogo relativo alla mostra "Genova nell'età barocca" tenutasi presso la Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola e Galleria di Palazzo reale nel 1992:

Il secondo, invece, "Jehoram saved from Athaliah", lotto 142, olio su tela, 149 x 198, è stato venduto in asta da Christie's a Londra il 30 luglio 2020.

The artwork is kept in a contemporary Genoese frame of the painting.

The painting in question is characterized by the extremely rare Old Testament subject. In the context of the intricate genoese artistic affair of the 17th century, undoubtedly, Gioacchino Assereto is the artist who has evident stylistic affinities with the canvas in question. In fact, the lesson of the genoese painter can be seen in the articulated and very populated composition resolved in half-length. Even the entire chromatic system permeated by brown hues with points of light created with white, red and light blue is a typical element of Assereto. To confirm this attribution thesis there are two other paintings by the master dedicated to the same and rare subject: the first is published on pages 92-94 of the catalog relating to the exhibition "Genova nell'età barocca" held at the National Gallery of Palazzo Spinola and Royal Palace Gallery in 1992:
