Scrive l'esimio Professore: Il dipinto raffigura la Carità, ed è, a mio giudizio, opera di Carlo Cignani (Forlì 1628 - 1712). È un soggetto ripetuto più volte dal pittore, ciò dimostra la sua piacevolezza, oltre che alla sua qualità pittorica. Esso di lega bene ad altri dipinti del Cignani, come ad esempio ai Cinque Sensi, della Galleria Sabauda di Torino e alla Carità, del Museo di Castelvecchio di Verona: opera che ritengo, come la presente in esame, della maturità del pittore. The distinguished Professor writes: the painting depicts Charity and is, in my opinion, the artwork of Carlo Cignani (Forlì 1628 - 1712). It is a subject repeated several times by the painter, which demonstrates its pleasantness, as well as its pictorial quality. It ties in well with other paintings by Cignani, such as for example the Cinque Sensi, from the Sabauda Gallery in Turin and the Charity, from the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona: an artwork that I believe, like the present one under examination, is from the painter's maturity.
