Antonio Allegri detto il Correggio (Correggio 1489 - 1534) seguace del XVI secolo Pietà Olio su tavola 39,5 x 30 cm L'opera in questione, già in collezione dei Gonzaga a Mantova, fu poi ceduta a Carlo I d'Inghilterra. Dopo vari passaggi di proprietà, oggi è conservata presso il Museo Civico di Correggio. La sua popolarità si deduce dalle importanti copie antiche, tra cui spiccano quelle di Annibale Carracci, oggi in Galleria Borghese, di Lorenzo Lotto, in collezione privata, e di Giulio Cesare Amidano, che si trova nella chiesa del Santo Sepolcro a Parma.
