Sir James Paul McCartney CH MBE (born 18 June 1942) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician who gained worldwide fame as co-lead vocalist, co-songwriter, and bassist for the Beatles. One of the most successful composers and performers of all time, he is known for his melodic approach to bass-playing, versatile and wide tenor vocal range. His songwriting partnership with John Lennon remains the most successful in history.  
McCartney was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of the Beatles and again as a solo artist in 1999. In 1979 and again in 2009, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized McCartney as the "most honored composer and performer in music", and as the "most successful song writer", he wrote jointly or solo 43 songs that sold one million or more records between 1962 and 1978. 18-time Grammy Award winner; 1965: Member of the Order of the British Empire;1971: Academy Award winner (as a member of the Beatles); 1997: Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music;2010: Gershwin Prize for his contributions to popular music;2010: Kennedy Center Honors;2012: Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame;2012: Légion d'Honneur for his services to music;2015: 4148 McCartney, asteroid named after him by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center; and holder of many other accolades.
