Félix Bracquemond (after F. Herrera le Vieux)

Saint Basil, 1859
Black and white etching, 28 x 19 cm
Saint Basile is a black and white etching on Japon paper by Félix Bracquemond.
This modern artwork, representing the saint writing his doctrine on a volume and surrounded by some pupils, was realized after the original painting by F. Herrera le Vieux, today on display at the Louvre Museum.
This original print was published by La Gazette des Beaux-Arts, as the typewritten note reports.
Reference: Beraldi, 285.
Félix Bracquemond (Paris, 1833 - Sèvres, 1914) was a French painter, also known as Auguste Joseph Bracquemond. He played an essential role in the renewal of engravings, also fostered by Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Camille Pissarro.
In very good conditions, except for the usual yellowing of the paper and some stains on the margins.
