Isidore Stanislas Helman

La Révolution Française
Etching, 32,5 x 25 cm
La Révolution française is a superb etching realized by Isidor Stanislas Helman, after an original drawing by Monnet.
This original print represents a public event of the third year of the French Revolution, with a very spectacular and theatrical perspective.
Dealing with the Journée du 21 Janvier 1793, our plate represents the death of Louis Capet sur Place de la Révolution, designed by Monnet.

Isidore Stanislas Helman (Lille, 1743 - Paris, 1806 or 1809)
Isidore Stanislas Helman was a French engraver, pupil of the Lille Academy of Fine Arts, under the guidance of Louis-Jean Guéret and Louis-Joseph Watteau. He moved to Paris, where he completed his training under Jacques-Philippe Lebas. He etched plates whose images were taken from paintings by many artists, including Nicolas Lavreince, Pierre Antoine Baudouin, Jean Duplessis-Bertaux, Jean-Baptiste Le Prince, and Hubert Robert.
Isidore Stanislas Helman has made engravings for Les Conquêtes de l'empereur de la Chine (1783-1785) and for the Principal journées de la Révolution, by paintings by Charles Monnet (1797). Our Journée du 21 Janvier 1793 represents the mort de Louis Capet sur la Place de la Révolution, designed by Monnet. The iconography of the beheading of Louis XVI of France, the founding event of the French Revolution, appears as if taken from reality.
He was one of the engravers of the rich edition, in three volumes, of the Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto. He has also collaborated on the work Les Métamorphoses d'Ovide gravées sur les desseins des meilleurs peintres francais.
In excellent conditions, including a passepartout, cm 37 x 52.7.
