There is a dedication handwritten in blue ink by Nicanor Parra on the half title page: “Un gran abrazo para Thiago. Nicanor. 15-IX-62”. There is a dedication in green ink in Pablo Neruda’s handwriting on the back cover: “A San Thiago Mello de Brazin y de Chile, de su amigo, Pablo Neruda. 1962”. On 30th March 1962, the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of the University of Chile, in a public session which took place in the Hall of Honour, made Pablo Neruda an Academic Member in recognition of his enormous body of world class poetry. The ceremony was presided over by the Rector, Juan Gómez Millas, the dean of the faculty, Eugenio González and the General Secretary, Álvaro Bunster. Nicanor Parra, a member of the teaching staff, gave the reception speech.
