A LACQUERED AND GILT WOOD WRITING BOX, SUZURIBAKO
Giappone, periodo Edo, XIX secolo
Rectangular section with rounded corners, the whole internal and external surface finely decorated with gold and silver in maki-e on a 'pear-skin' ( nashi-ji) ground, the outside of the lid with five horses in the landscape in the light of a moon partially covered by clouds, the inside of the lid with a sprig of herbs and flowers, rectangular tray for the brushes, the housing for the ink stone and the metal water dropper ( suiteki) in the shape of a fan with incised floral decoration.
