“Christ”. Carved, gilded and polychromed sculpture with “estofado” technique. Colonial School. Probably Peru. 17th century.
Marvellous sculpture of Christ wearing beautiful clothing, with a cape that falls over his back and is tied at the waist, forming a multitude of folds which give volume and movement to the figure. The richness of the polychroming, the colours and the gold, as well as the flesh tones which are such brilliant characteristics of the Quito School, lead us to conclude that the creator of this image was a master sculptor of Viceroy Peru.
