Rabbi Eliyahu Nissim Meyuchas is appointed in this letter, dated 1876, as Shadar to the regions of Morocco known as ‘Maarav Hapenimi’ to raise funds for the poor of Yerushalayim. The exact towns and areas he is to travel to are specified in the letter, including Morocco, Gibraltar and Portugal.
The letter has the following signatories: Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi – Rishon Letzion (signature and stamp), Rabbi Moshe Benveniste (stamp), Rabbi Chaim Nissim Baruch – Av Beth Din of the Sefardim (stamp), Rabbi Shlomo Amzalag (stamp), Rabbi Refael Meir Fanizel – Rishon Letzion (stamp), and R. Yaakov Valero – leading communal activist and bank manager.

Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi (1811-1880), Dayan and Av Beis Din of the Sefardi community in Yerushalayim, who succeeded Rabbi Chaim David Chazan as Chief Rabbi and Rishon Letzion.
