A rare Chinese export silver gilt Esther scroll case, by Wang Hing, Hong Kong, c.1900, (lacking scroll), the cylindrical body overlaid with pierced bamboo decoration to bud finial and spirally fluted winder, the base of the case stamped 90, 21cm long, approx. weight 3oz. Please note that Roseberys cannot guarantee that this scroll is kosher Note: Although the Jewish community in Hong Kong was small, its origins were in those merchants arriving from Canton and Macau in 1842 when the Chinese ceded the territory to Great Britain, a much larger community residing in Shanghai. By 1904 Hong Kong could boast its first and only Jewish governor, Sir Matthew Nathan.
