Dorothea e la biscia (Dorothea and the snake) is an original color etching, realized in 1963 by the Italian contemporary master, Gaetano Pompa. Hand-signed and numbered in pencil on the lower left margin. This specimen is from a limited edition of 75 prints numbered in Arabic numerals, plus 20 prints numbered in Roman numerals. Representing his love relationship with his wife Dorothea, this original print shows a woman of profile carrying on her nake a necklace with a pendant man-shaped. A snake wraps around the female body. With a long description engraved on plate and written on the reverse, on the higher left corner. In excellent conditions, with bright colors, except for some sporadic stains on the engraved area. this defect does not affect the image. Gaetano Pompa (Forenza, Italy, 1933 - Orbetello 1998) The Italian artist Gaetano Pompa begins his artistic career after the war conflict, in Rome, where he moves with his family to start his studies and to paint and engrave. From 1958 to 1961 he lived in Munich, in the Schwabing district, carrying out intense artistic activity and participating with great passion in the musical life of the Bavarian city. Back in Italy he married Dorothea Leendertz, known in Germany, with whom he had five children. Since then Gaetano Pompe has lived and operated in Rome and since 1970 between Ansedonia and Orbetello.
