He studied at West Tex. A. & M. University. In 1981 he made his operatic debut in New York singing Agathe Weber. In 1982 he made his first appearance at the Santa Fe Opera as Rosalinde, and later sang there with great success in subsequent seasons. In 1983 she appeared as Freia in Das Rheingold at the San Francisco Opera. He made regular appearances at the Washington (DC) Opera since 1984 and the Cincinnati Opera since 1986. After singing Desdemona at the Pittsburgh Opera and Helen of Troy in Mefistofele at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1991, he has been engaged as Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth at La Scala Milan, and the OP was de la Bastille in Paris in 1992. in 1996 he sang Emilia Marty in Janacek Opera of Vancouver.
