The son of a glassmaker master, he studied piano and singing at first with Iris Adami Corradetti, then with Cecilia bags, then continued his studies in singing with Anna Maria Bicciato and Arrigo Pola. After winning numerous competitions, he participated in the competition As.Li.Co. who won, debuting in Pavia in 1972, only twenty-three years, in The Barber of Seville I Pagliacci, conducted by Maestro Alberto Zedda. In the same year he made his debut in Un Ballo in Maschera, winner of the "Toti Dal Monte" in Treviso, then in La forza del destino at the Arena di Verona in Rigoletto, establishing himself as the youngest international interpreter of this role.
