Gold frame with a border of old cut diamonds, within a further border of alternately set turquoise, amethyst, opals and garnets atop a gold rococo base within a final border of old cut diamonds. The portrait shows a young child and the gold lined back has the following inscription: 'Veiled in deep clouds the distant future lies and who may pierce them - but to human eyes. Nought than thy prospects, fairest boy more fair enchants the wanderer through a world of care. Born April 26th 1821.' 66 x 58mm, 64.8g.
