DUMAS ALEXANDRE: Fils (1824-1895) French Author and Dramatist. A.L.S., `A. Dumas f.´, two pages, 8vo, blue paper, n.p. [Paris], n.d. [1881], on his 98 Avenue de Villiers printed stationery, to an unidentified woman, in French. Dumas explains to his correspondent that he found the letter late `…found your letter only at midnight, that means too late to be able to go to the theatre..´ Dumas further refers to the photograph requested by the correspondent, saying `.. it is a four or five years old photograph, but I don´t make any new more ones because of coquetry..´, and further again adds a sentence in German `Can you read and understand me?´. Before concluding Dumas sends his thanks and refers to the role his correspondent will perform, saying `…thanks in advance for all the boredom, and perhaps for the troubles that the role of Lionnette will give you..´ With blank integral leaf. Overall age wear and creasing, with few very small repairs and a binder hole to the upper border. Not affecting the text. About G

 

Lionnette de Hun is the main role of Dumas´ playwright in three acts La Princesse de Bagdad (1881) It was performed at the Comédie-Française, where it was premiered, by Sophie Croizette (1847-1901), regarded at the time as the main rival of Sarah Bernhardt.
