[CHARIOTS OF FIRE]: ABRAHAMS HAROLD: (1899-1978) British Athlete, Olympic Gold Medallist in the 100 metres sprint at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. Abrahams was immortalised in the film Chariots of Fire (1981). A vintage 8vo printed menu card for a Dinner given to Sportsmen in the News by the International Sports Fellowship at the Hotel Russell, London, on 17th October 1953, signed ('Harold M. Abrahams') by Abrahams in blue ink with his name alone to the verso and further signed by over fifteen other sportsmen and women including the athletes Roger Bannister (the first man in history to run the mile in less than four minutes), Christopher Chataway (pacemaker to Bannister) and Jim Peters, the footballer Joe Mercer and the cricketers W. Stuart Surridge, Alec Bedser, Eric Bedser and Alf Gover etc. All have signed in bold fountain pen inks or pencil. VG £100-120
