Guatemalan School mid 18th century
"Calvario"
Carved in wood, polychrome and gilded with vitreous paste eyes.
These small sets for private oratory easy to transport reached in Guatemala a unique quality and preciousness in the middle of the 18th century. His inspiration is the Sevillian sculpture, which was the one most exported to the New World in the elegance and beauty of expressive faces. The polychrome based on gilding with small flowers made with a brush and the interiors of the layers in green or red corleados are characteristic of this school.
The Sculpture Museum of Valladolid has a similar one with inventory number CE2810.
size: 89 x 15 x 47 cms.
