Italian school, 17th century. Circle of Andrea Sacchi (1599-1661). Pentecost. Oil on canvas. According to the narration of Saint Luke, author of the Acts of the Apostles, when they were gathered, suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a rushing wind, which filled the whole house, and a kind of tongues of fire. appeared that settled on each one of them; They were immediately filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the words that the Holy Spirit put in their mouths in different languages. Andre Sacchi was one of the great representatives of classicism in Italian painting of the 17th century. He trained with Francesco Albani, and therefore heir to the Bolognese classicism of Annibale Carracci. Both this use of color and his monumental and orderly compositions are reflected in this work.
