Copy of the Holy Gaon the Machaneh Chaim of Munkatch

Sefer Kohelet Yaakov, on the Ari's Kabbalah by the holy Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Zvi Yalisch. First edition. Lemberg, 1870. The personal copy of the great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Sofer of Munkatch, author of the Machaneh Chaim. 


Sefer Kohelet Yaakov, alphabetically ordered Kabbalistic entries, authored by the holy Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Zvi Yalisch of Dinov, author of Meloh Haro'im. First edition. Lemberg, 1870. With approbations by Rabbi Yosef Shaul Nathanson, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Ziditchov, Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Krajow and more. 


On the title page, the handwritten signature of Rabbi Chaim Sofer of Munkatch: 'קניתי מהוני לכבוד תורת קוני הק' חיים סופר פה מאנקאטש'. On the flyleaf, the signature of his son Rabbi Moshe David Sofer. 


The Holy Gaon Rabbi Chaim Sofer, the Machaneh Chaim [1822-1886] author of the Machaneh Chaim books. One of the greatest Poskim of Hungary. Succeeded his Rav, Maran the Chasam Sofer in fighting Milchemes Hashem Bagiborim by isolating himself from the Neological communities. He also studied with Maran the Kesav Sofer, the Maharam Esh, the Holy Gaon Rabbi Binyomin Wolf Loew author of Sha'arei Torah and with Rabbi Hillel of Kalmay. Served as the Rav of several important communities and was appointed the Rav of the community of Munkatch, one of the largest and most important communities in Hungary of those days. In 1879, he became the Rav of the orthodox community of Budapest and was the first to hold the position after the separation of the communities of Hungary.

Tear to leaf 54, affecting the text of the upper part. Water damage. Minor aging stains. Fine renewed binding. Good condition.
