Letter from Rabbi Moshe Clears, Av Beit Din of Tiberias, 1926


Lengthy letter on the topic of intercession for 'the precious youth, sharp and expert, Rabbi Ya'akov Lipschitz. Entirely handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Moshe Clears, Av Beit Din of Tiberias.


Rabbi Moshe Clears [1876-1934] was the first Ashkenazic chief rabbi of Tiberias. In 1900, he founded the Ohr Torah yeshivah near the tomb of Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNes, which he led until his passing. With the summons of the Admo"r of Slonim, Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg, he traveled for a few years to Slonim to serve as a teacher for the Rebbe's son. He was known for his sanctified conduct [he would stay in yeshivah from Sundays through Thursdays and return to his home within the Tiberias city walls only for the weekends], his sons include leaders of Slonim Chassidism.
