Letter regarding the community by Rabbi Samson Refael Hirsch. 1846.
Letter regarding the Emden community by Rabbi Samson Refael Hirsch, written during his term in the rabbinate in the city. May 26, 1846. With additional documents from his term in the city.
[3] pages, 32x20 cm. In his hand and with his signature in German. At the top of the page: ב"ה in Hebrew letters.
The letter discusses the appointment of a cantor in the Aurich community which was under the jurisdiction of the rabbi of Emden. On the back, over a page and a half, is a lengthy handwritten confirmation from the Aurich community committee from June 24, 1846. The local government was also involved in this affair. Included is a Hebrew translation of the documents.
Rabbi Samson Refael Hirsch [1808-1888] was the leader of Orthodox Jewry in Germany in the 19th century. In 1841 he served as rabbi of the Hannoverian district and moved to Emden.
Stains. Fold marks. Very fine condition.
