A FINELY CARVED OTTOMAN OPIUM SMOKING PIPE
Ottoman, Turkey, Ca. 19th century AD . An opium smoking pipe of elongated form, the gently tapering wooden stem fitted with finely worked metal mounts, the bulbous red clay bowl richly decorated with engraved and impressed designs featuring stylised floral motifs, interwoven geometric patterns, and calligraphic inscriptions in elegant naskh script, the upper rim accentuated by a beaded band. The surface displays a warm patina, indicative of age and use. The underside of the bowl bears an oval cartouche with further inscriptions, possibly a maker’s mark. The overall composition suggests a finely crafted example of Ottoman-era smoking paraphernalia, likely produced in Turkey or the Balkans.Size: 435mm x 50mm; Weight: 285gProvenance: Previous property of an Islamic art professional.
