KONōMARU KUNIYOSHI
(active late 13th – early 14th century)

Steel, 71 cm (88 cm with the tang)
Signed 國吉作 ( Kuniyoshi tsukuru) on the tang.
Provenance: Fabrizio Savi collection, acquired in the late 1990s from Fred Weissberg.
This rare blade bears a signature that can refer to a swordmaker of the Yamato Senjuin school active between the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th century. It has been retempered, almost certainly in the 14th century.
