A KNIFE DISGUISED AS A FAN, SHIKOMI TESSEN
Japan, second half of the 19th century
Steel blade, handle and sheath in black lacquered wood with a gold decoration of sparrows and flowers.
30 cm long
Provenance: Italian private collection.
A knife very similar to this one - considered a weapon available to female warriors - is in the Stibbert Museum in Florence ( Guerriere del Sol Levante, exhibition catalogue, Turin 2019, n. 26).
