Nanni Moretti, born Giovanni Moretti in Brunico on 19 August 1953, is an Italian film director, actor, screenwriter and producer. He is known for his personal and often autobiographical style, which reflects on Italian society with often sarcastic and grotesque tones.

Moretti began his career with Super 8 short films, then moved on to feature films with "Io sono un autarchico" in 1976. His recurring character, Michele Apicella, made his first appearance in this film.

Among his most famous films, we remember "Ecce bombo", "Caro diario", "Aprile" and "La stanza del figlio", for which he won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Moretti has also been awarded the David di Donatello and the Nastri d'Argento for several of his works.

In addition to his film career, Moretti is also known for his political commitment and his ability to use cinema as a tool for reflection on Italian society and politics. He was also hospitalized for Hodgkin's lymphoma, a disease he recounted in the film "Caro diario".

Moretti, in his private life, had a son, Pietro, with Silvia Nono, daughter of the musician Luigi Nono and Nuria Schönberg.
