At the end is the poem, Farewell, written in pencil on the final blank page, unsigned. There is a portrait in Indian ink of a very young Neruda. There is no colophon. Bound. This work was written in the poet’s youth and gained notoriety as it caused Neruda to be accused of plagiarising the Uruguayan poet Carlos Sábat Ercasty. In fact, the poet recognises Sábat Ercasty’s influence in the prologue.
